About Fataneh
“The melody in music has always pulled at me. Music makes me fly and feel. It fulfills my dreams,” says Fataneh, a native of Tehran, Iran. Fataneh has been singing since early childhood. Music has always been her passion, and she has spent many years perfecting her talents. At the tender age of six, Fataneh performed on stage in front of nearly one thousand people at the Royal Cinema Theater with a children’s talent group headed by Dariush Pirnia.. She thinks back, “I remember sitting with my father, listening to Ostad Shahnaz playing tar, all the while letting it transport me to another place.” She went on to graduate from the National University of Iran, where she studied sociology. While attending school there, she met and married her husband, and had two beautiful children. Choosing family over career, Fataneh raised her children and devoted herself to them, but music was always in her heart, so she never strayed far from it. “It was always inside me,” she says.
Following a life-long commitment to music, mezzo soprano Fataneh, has been trained in various forms. She has studied classical, opera, and contemporary music styles. In 1976, Fataneh joined the Talar Rodaki Choir directed by Mr. Meshcat. Shortly around the time of the revolution, Fataneh and family moved to Germany, where she lived for a few years. She continued to study music in Germany with private instructors, always honing her talent. Eventually, Fataneh and family moved to the U.S. where she continued her pursuit of singing. She performed with the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, singing in their choir. She later continued voice training and perfected her opera musical style under the direction of Sue Anne Pinner. For three years, she sang with the Santa Monica College Opera Theater. She performed leading roles in “Madame Butterfly,” “Carmen,” “The Barber of Seville,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” and “The Magic Flute.”
Four years ago, Fataneh began singing with the legendary international recording artist, Dariush. Dariush’s remarkable lyrical style, soulful voice, and profound compassion for his community and the lives of others, have always inspired Fataneh. She has sung with him as a guest artist several times since, at venues such as the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, The Gibson Universal Amphitheater, The Orpheum Theater in San Francisco, and the Performing Arts Theater in Irvine.
Fataneh believes, “Music transports you to different places where you’ve never been. It helps you feel the depths of the sea or the spirit of the mountains. It offers you the opportunity to sense pain, joy, and love.” She adds that she will continue to perform and sing for her fans.
